Democratizing CAE: Mini-symposium within NAFEMS 2016 Americas

2016-americas-slideDemocratizing CAE will be the focus of an extensive mini-symposium within the NAFEMS 2016 Americas Conference taking place June 7-9 in Seattle. Building on last year’s pathbreaking Democratizing CAE webinar series hosted by NAFEMS Americas—itself a follow-on from a seminal forum on the topic at the 2015 NAFEMS World Congress—the mini-symposium will feature a rich array of proof-point case studies showing how engineering organizations across a wide range of industries are putting democratized CAE into practice today (click session titles to view presentation abstracts): Continue reading

Packaging SimApps webinar

Gaining a Competitive Edge in Packaging Using Simulation and SimApps™ webinar, 11:00 am ET, June 2. Shortening development schedules and producing optimized products are key to staying competitive in the packaging market. By using simulation and user-friendly SimApps as part of their process, engineering organizations can reduce the number of tooling and testing iterations, reducing both costs and time to market. Webinar attendees will learn the advantages of using simulation and SimApps in a typical development cycle, what accuracy can be expected from using simulation, how simulation and testing work together, what tests and manufacturing operations can be evaluated using simulation and SimApps, and how to overcome the challenges of periodic need, material data, computer hardware and software licensing costs. Simulation Apps: Simulation for Everyone webinar

Simulation Apps: Simulation for Everyone Simulation is complicated, limiting it to a group of experts. However, democratization of CAE would improve a product’s development cycle. This webinar, hosted by ENGINEERING.com, demonstrated how simulation apps can target a larger audience through simplified user interfaces, be created using five tips, and be used in real-life use cases. The presenter is Malcolm Panthaki, founder and chief technology officer at the simulation application company, Comet Solutions. View a recording of the webinar here.

Comet supporting Ohio Supercomputer Center AweSim program with cloud-based SimApps

Comet SolutionsSimulation Applications (SimApps™) will be available on the cloud through a partnership with the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) via the OSC AweSim initiative, its founding partners including Kinetic Vision, and other engineering service providers. By capturing and embedding the experience of senior analysts, SimApps allow simulations to be run more easily, consistently and safely. With locally hosted versions of SimApps already delivering measurable gains in productivity, cost savings, quality and innovation for leading aerospace, automotive and industrial companies, the new cloud-based SimApps will broaden access to Comet’s technology, not only making CAE expertise accessible to all manufacturers, but also combining high-performance computing resources with SimApps for a powerful, scalable simulation solution. Automating the setup and execution of simulation and analysis problems has been a goal of both practitioners and software vendors since almost the beginning of the mechanical CAE software industry. After a long period of gestation and gradual progress, new solutions that benefit analysts, engineers and designers alike are coming to market at an ever-accelerating pace. Continue reading

Comet announces Gearbox Durability SimApp

Comet Solutions announced a program in support of gearbox design and manufacturing. The Comet gearbox solution, consisting of a suite of solution-specific Gearbox SimApps, will provide automated processes integrating the broad spectrum of tools frequently used throughout gearbox development—CAD, FEA, multibody dynamics, gear/bearing simulation and CFD—in order to predict and optimize performance in the areas of acoustics/vibration/dynamics, durability/reliability, efficiency, and for management of cost and weight. Developed in cooperation with ADET (Advanced Drivetrain Engineering and Technology) and utilizing SMT (Smart Manufacturing Technology) MASTA, Comet’s new Gearbox Durability SimApp will provide gearbox OEM companies the means to perform basic durability evaluations of various gearbox system designs. More information here. Run the Gearbox Durability SimApp live at Gear Expo 2015, Oct. 20-22, Cobo Center, Detroit—visit Comet and ADET in booth 1311, and SMT in booth 2207.

Model-based design exploration and optimization

Discussions of how to simulate early in product development fixate too often on FEA, overlooking the power of systems modeling and 0D/1D simulation for studying, exploring and optimizing designs at the beginning of projects, when product geometry is seldom available for 3D CAE but engineering decision-making can have its greatest impact and leverage on project success.
